Essay: Write a 3-part assertive statement to a teacher who falsely accused you of turning in your homework late. Student Answer: I understand that you believe I turned in the assignment late. If you look at the time you received the email/notification that I turned it in, you will see that I turned it in on time. You can also check the document history to see I stopped editing it and exited the document around the proper time. |

Essay: Write a 3-part assertive statement to a friend who keeps making plans with you and then cancelling at the last minute. Student Answer: I understand you may have a busy schedule and it may be hard to follow through with these plans. But I keep having to adjust my schedule around these plans, only to have you cancel them. I would really appreciate it if you would check your schedule before making plans because this is getting very cumbersome. |

Essay: When you choose to be assertive, you won't always get everything you want. With that in mind, why should you still choose to communicate assertively? Provide two reasons. Student Answer: One reason you should choose to communicate assertively is that it will help get your point across in a clear and reasonable fashion so people can understand and follow. A second reason you should choose to communicate in an assertive fashion is that it doesn't directly attack the other person. If you were to shout or yell at them, they may feel degraded or get more upset, causing more chaos and confusion and the issue will continue. |
