I would tell him/her that I did not turn in my homework late and if they refuse to understand that, then that is no longer my problem I told you that I did not turn it in late and you still don't want to listen then that's there problem not mine.

If you are going to make plans then set the plan up to the point where you wont have to cancel at the last minute.

Because it is the right thing to do even if you think that you will get what want and you don't that does not mean stop being assertively.
