I understand if an emergency comes up and you need to cancel but when you cancel last minute without an emergency it really hurts my feelings. Maybe instead of cancelling last minute you can call ahead and cancel.

You should continue to be assertive even though you won't always get what you want because it will lead you to better things in life. Also people will like you better if you are assertive.
